Sometimes a circle, sometimes a slice and soon not there at all... This picture book in easy verse urges a child to look out of the window each night to watch the 'moon show' in the sky – its waxing and waning. Echoing the text, the illustrations are deliberately childlike and capture the grand sweep of the night sky.

Very neat way to amuse a toddler!
Rao's free-flowing verse is charming, and has an effect of a soothing lullaby. Using words like "slice" and "comma", she describes in first person how the moon progressively grows to completion. I liked that the lines didn't always rhyme, but still maintained a rhythm. This made the book mimic a natural monologue. Saffron Tree
